Projects

Filament Machine

A-Level Design and Technolgy

The project aim was to develop a machine capable of recycling plastic bottles and turning them into filament to be used by 3D printers. The design had to take into consideration the sustainability of materials used, the safety of the operator, and had to be easy and simple in its operation.

iMac Teardown

Creating a display showing the inner workings of iMac

Given an old iMac, i was tasked with creating an exploded view of the device to help students understand how many parts interact with each other to create a product. It also provides an insight inot the complex circuitry required for computers to function.

Testimonials

Will Pope

Head of Upper Sixth - Reed's School

Josh has been an absolute delight to have in the Sixth Form house over the last two years. His passion and commitment for design has shone forth throughout his A levels and my visits to the FutureTech building are always more interesting when Josh is in there; the spark in his eyes when he starts discussing the current problem he is wrestling with is a wonderful thing and shows that he is destined for a wonderful career in this field. Going from his Herculean contributions in his group's Gold Award project last year through to his groundbreaking final DT project, Josh has applied the Reed's values to his studies, his hobbies and his every day conduct with aplomb and he should be exceedingly proud of everything he has achieved while a Reedonian.

Cambell Thomson

Upper Sixth Tutor - Reed's School

Joshua is a most mature and diligent member of the tutor group. He is always willing to help his peers with any IT problems and teachers have commented to me that he works in an increasingly independent fashion.

Mark Hoskins

Headmaster - Reed's School

You have certainly contributed greatly to the Reed's community, through your initiative and design creativity in particular - the country needs minds such as yours! Also, you should take pride in your understated maturity and responsibility that has been a role model for others. You have a most exciting future to look forward to and I have no doubt you will be successful.

Ed Marsh

Fifth Form Tutor - Reed's School

Joshua is a leading light in the year group and can be very proud of all his numerous successes. Yet again this is a brilliant report with mainly "Excellent" for effort and this has translated into an impressive set of academic grades. Achieving "9s" in both DT and Computer Science at this stage is very impressive and it is great to see him continue these topics into Sixth Form. Joshua is clearly an independent worker who is resilient in his response to feedback. Outside of school it is great to hear about his golf successes and swimming achievements. These are a huge part of what makes Joshua so broadly skilled. It has been a privilege to be Joshua's tutor for the last two years and see him grow into a mature young man.

Will Pope

Teacher of Engineering - Reed's School

I have noticed a great improvement in Joshua's self confidence and belief in his own abilities, particularly in our Engineering project. Josh has become an unofficial leader of his group and I am delighted that he has been inspired by this to go on to do the head start course at Liverpool over the summer.

Andy Austin

Year 8 Tutor - Kings's House School

Joshua has contributed well to wider school life, collecting credits for his house, helping make Bonenza Ball nets for a Rwanda Aid event, props for the Year 6 and 8 productions and representing the school in a technology tournament.

Estelle Patten

Head of Design & Technology - Kings's House School

Joshua has been so committed to the projects that we have worked on that he has gone above and beyond to research and develop resources that have been used for the benefit of the whole year. He uses tools and machinery safely and was competent using the computer aided design software to create his logo design and Easter egg packaging. He is such a pleasure to teach and I am grateful that his enthusiasm inspires so many boys in the school.

Adam Bradley

Year 7 Tutor - Kings's House School

His high levels of organisation and focus, as well as his conscientious and polite approach have also been identified by most of his subject leaders as those which he demonstrates most consistently within lessons. In one report, Joshua has been identified as a ‘model pupil’; to come across such unanimous positivity speaks volumes for your character – well done! Joshua has also demonstrated exemplary behaviour and engagement on school trips, where his willingness work as part of team was commented favourably upon.
